Walt Disney World Resorts

Logo Wdw Resort Poly 001aWith its pattern of criss-crossing beams on the great ceremonial house, Disney's Polynesian Resort was designed to create a sense of warmth as it welcomed guests to its tropical shores.

The resort is designed around a central Ceremonial house surrounded by eight longhouses. The eight longhouse were named: Bali Hai, Bora Bora, Fiji, Hawaii, Maui, Samoa, Tahiti and Tonga.

Like the Contemporary Resort, the Polynesian Resort had its basic structure of the long houses laid out and lifted the rooms into place during the construction.

Logo Wdw Resort Contemporary 001The A-frame structure of the Contemporary Resort quickly became an iconic figure for the new Walt Disney World. Aiding to its immediate fascination by the guests, was the inclusion of a monorail stop inside the 14 story atrium, which also included one of the largest murals ever designed.

Designed by noted architect Welton Becket and Associates of California with WED Enterprises the Contemporary Resort used a unique system of construction that consisted of building the superstructure frame of the building and then sliding the completed guest rooms into their existing location.
