One of the great treats growing up was seeing the Harlem Globetrotters in between other sporting events on a Saturday afternoon. Well, ESPN the Weekend delivered some Harlem Globetrotter magic this past Saturday.
Under the Hat
On the main stage with announcer Joe Candelora, some of the world famous Harlem Globetrotters took center stage underneath the sorcerer’s hat and did what they do best – wow the crowd.
Not only did they dazzle the crowd they also filled us in all the events in their calendar. With multiple teams of Globetrotters, they are frequently on tour all over the world. To hear the stories of their favorite moments – one on an aircraft carrier playing for our troops – was great to hear.
The skill with which these players handle the ball is nothing short of amazing. Their performances (their word) have engaged and entertained generations of fans all over the world. From the globetrotters of my childhood, like Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal to todays crop of athletes on the team, the Harlem Globetrotters are an American institution that will continue to enthrall generations to come.
