The Disney/ABC Television Group received 19 Daytime Emmy Awards at the 36th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards presented this weekend, August 29th and 30th.
ABC’s “The View” received four Daytime Emmy Awards and made history when the honor of Outstanding Talk Show Host was bestowed on Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. It was the first time in the 36 year history of NATAS that multiple talk show hosts were bestowed this honor. The women of “The View” have been nominated for 12 consecutive years in this category; this was their first win.
Other wins for ABC’s “The View” include Outstanding Directing in a Talk Show/Morning Program for Director, Mark Gentile; Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling and “Outstanding Achievement in Makeup.
ABC’s “All My Children” received five Daytime Emmy Awards. Vincent Irizarry took home the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as David Hayward. Other wins included Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction/Set Decoration/Scenic Design for a Drama Series; Outstanding Achievement in Lighting Direction for a Drama Series; Outstanding Achievement in Live and Direct to Tape Sound Mixing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control for a Drama Series.
“One Life to Live’s” Susan Haskell was honored with the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Marty Saybrooke. In 1994 Haskell also won the Supporting Actress award for her portrayal of Saybrooke. The Directing Team was honored with the award for Outstanding Drama Series Directing Team, and the ABC soap also received awards for Outstanding Achievement in a Costume Design for a Drama Series, Outstanding Achievement in Makeup for a Drama Series, and rounding out the five wins was the award for the song “We all Fall Down,” which was recognized with the Outstanding Original Song for a Drama Series Award.
For her role as Lulu Spencer on ABC’s “General Hospital,” actress Julie Berman was honored as Outstanding Younger Actress. The series’ writing team was also honored with the award for Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team.
Meredith Vieira won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host for Disney-ABC Domestic Television’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” which premieres its eighth season in syndication on Monday, September 7.
ABC’s “Good Morning America” won its third consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Morning Program, and Disney Channel’s “Imagination Movers” was honored with the Outstanding Original Song-Children’s and Animation for the song “Boing, Cluck, Cluck.”
The Daytime Emmy Awards were presented in Los Angeles. Winners of the 36th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards were announced live on the CW Television Network on August 30th from the historic Orpheum Theater and The Creative Arts Emmy Awards were presented on August 29th at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel.
