Kermit the Frog

Jim was born on September 24, 1936…just a few short months after my own father. He has had a major impact on my life, just like my own father. I remember the day he died…I was living in Red Bank, NJ and the news was devastating to so many of us who grew up with him and his vivid imagination. He was was the equivalent to Walt Disney with no equivocation.

I remember seeing the full page ad in the Times the day after he died; it was a simple drawing of Mickey Mouse with a tear streaming down his face. Very respectful of the man and his contributions to the entertainment industry.

In honor of Jim’s birthday and his alter ego’s impact on my life, I have created another in a series of my icon paintings, entitled “hi ho”. It is my interpretation of Kermit the frog and I hope you enjoy it.

Wrapping it up

Jim Henson was a visionary unlike any that came before him, or since. He understood certain aspects of the human experience that few have ever observed, and shared that understanding with the rest of us. His work was groundbreaking and inspired generations of children to pursue their dreams…myself included. Happy birthday Jim!
