On This Day in 1971, Disney World culminated a 3-day long celebration of the formal grand opening of the park. Although opened since October 1, this day was chosen as the day to formally dedicate the park. Roy spoke to his brother’s dream and dedicated the park which is commemorated on a plaque in the town square of Main Street U.S.A.
Walt Disney World is a tribute to the philosophy and life of Walter Elias Disney… and to the talents, the dedication, and the loyalty of the entireDisney organization that made Walt Disney’s dream come true. May Walt Disney World bring Joy and Inspiration and New Knowledge to all who come to this happy place … a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn — together.
A few years back, we created a simple web app for mobile devices, for fun, about the dedication of Disney World. Friday we updated it to a newer version of the framework that also included an updated look and feel. Hardly comprehensive or robust as a native app, it is a quick guide to some of the attractions that were open on those early days of the park we love so dearly. You can view the updated web app here (designed for your mobile devices).
Happy Anniversary Magic Kingdom!
