Mickey Mouse paid a visit to Kansas City this weekend, Walt Disney’s hometown, as he celebrated the unveiling of a traveling art exhibit that pays homage to Walt’s lifelong love of trains. He also unveiled the latest Mickey Mouse-inspired toy train set, Mickey’s Magic Choo Choo, releasing in time for the holidays.
Within the Walt Disney universe there are certainly alot of acronyms floating about. From the good ole days of WED and MAPO to more recent vernacular as simple as CMs, but what do all these things mean?
Acclaimed documentary WALT & EL GRUPO, a festival favorite in Rome, Rio, San Francisco, Palm Springs and Seattle, is set to begin its theatrical run with limited releases in Los Angeles and New York on September 11, 2009.
With the celebration of the 20th anniversay of Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I have been looking in the archives to see what I could pull out, scan/photograph and post here on the site. The first thing that I found were some old maps.
EPCOT’s (notice the spelling, it was still an acronym at this time) second night-time fireworks display was named New World Fantasy. As I was going through my archives I discovered a cache of original animation cels used to produce portions of the show.
Do you remember the pre-show at the old Country Bear Jamboree? Where they had the slides rotating out while you waited for the show? I have found a cache of original slides from that pre-show.
One of the things you find with the world of digital photos is the sheer number of images you can accumulate in a short amount of time. Let’s face it, they are not all great; some of them may be downright awful. But wait! Don’t delete them, you may be able to still have fun [...]
EPCOT as many of us know stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. It was the original concept for the Florida Project, but was abandoned shortly after Walt’s death in 1966. Nevertheless, the idea still had merit in the company and was continued in development over the years.
One of the great partnerships the Walt Disney Co. had was with Mattel. They have a long history of bringing great toys to market inspired by Disney’s magic. These are 2 dolls which were a result of this partnership.
The Magic Kingdom has grown from a simple extension of the Disneyland concept to being the crown jewel in the Walt Disney World Resort. With the growth, however, some experiences have been passed over.
The Disney Co. has always sold pins in their parks. From the early years and buttons to the elaborate pins offered today around thier “world” pins and pin trading have become a staple of the Walt Disney World Resort experience.
Digging through the archives, I discovered a few interesting pieces of Disney ephemera. The first to share, in celebration of the Walt Disney World Marathon, is the brochure and entry form for the first Walt Disney World (WDW) marathon.
